Why SEO Matters for Your Business

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving a website so it ranks higher in unpaid, organic search results, making it easier for potential customers to find your business on Google. Unlike paid advertising, SEO builds long-term visibility. Once your website earns strong rankings, it can continue generating traffic, leads, and revenue month after month.

Effective SEO helps your business to:

  • Increase online visibility for high-intent search terms
  • Drive consistent, organic website traffic
  • Build credibility and authority in your sector
  • Generate more enquiries, bookings, and sales
  • Reduce reliance on paid ads over time

When your website ranks highly on search engine results pages, it signals trust and authority. Customers are far more likely to choose a business that appears on page one rather than one buried further down the listings.

At Dash Agency, we don’t chase vanity metrics. We focus on sustainable growth that supports your business objectives.

Whilst SEO is important for your website, so is user experience. Read our guide on The Importance of Having a Website That is Built to Perform.

How Does Google Decide What Is a “Good Website”?

Google’s E-E-A-T framework is a set of guidelines that the search engine uses to evaluate the quality, credibility, and helpfulness of online content. The acronym stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.

Experience

What It Means: First-hand or life experience with the topic.

Example: A blog post written by a mechanic who actually tested a new tool, or a traveller reviewing a specific hotel they stayed in.

Expertise

What It Means: The creator’s formal knowledge, skill, or credentials in a specific subject.

Example: A fitness article written by a certified personal trainer, or a legal guide written by an attorney.

Authoritativeness

What It Means: The reputation of the creator or the website within their industry.

Example: Other reputable websites linking to your content, or industry experts referencing your brand as a “go-to” source.

Trustworthiness

What It Means: The safety, accuracy, and legitimacy of the content and the website.

Example: Having a secure website (HTTPS), citing reliable sources, being transparent, and ensuring your claims are factually accurate.

What’s Included in Our SEO Services?

Our SEO services are built on proven fundamentals and tailored to your market and goals.

We identify the exact phrases your potential customers are searching for. Rather than guessing at keywords, we base every recommendation on data, analysing:

  • Search volume: How many people are actually searching for each term, so effort goes where it matters
  • Competition levels: How hard each keyword is to rank for, so we can prioritise realistic wins alongside longer-term targets
  • Commercial intent: Whether searchers are ready to buy, comparing options, or just browsing, so we target terms that convert
  • Local relevance: How people search for your services in your specific area or region

By targeting the right keywords, we ensure your website attracts visitors who are ready to take action, not just traffic for traffic’s sake.

On-page SEO ensures each page of your website is structured to perform in search results. We optimise:

  • Title tags and meta descriptions: Written to improve click-through rates while accurately reflecting page content
  • Header structure: A clear hierarchy that helps both users and search engines navigate your content
  • Internal linking: Connecting related pages to spread authority and guide visitors deeper into your site
  • External linking: Referencing credible, relevant sources to build trust and context
  • Image optimisation: Compressed file sizes and descriptive alt text for faster load times and better accessibility
  • Content quality and depth: Comprehensive, genuinely useful content that answers the questions your audience is asking

Search engines favour websites that provide clear, relevant, and valuable information. We make sure your site delivers exactly that.

Behind every high-performing website is solid technical groundwork. We address:

  • Site speed improvements: Identifying and fixing what’s slowing your pages down
  • Crawl errors and broken links: Keeping your site fully accessible to search engine bots
  • Indexing issues: Making sure your most important pages are found and indexed correctly
  • Core Web Vitals: Google’s key performance metrics for loading, interactivity, and visual stability
  • Structured data implementation: Schema markup that helps search engines understand your content and unlocks rich results
  • Page speed and mobile usability: Ensuring a seamless experience across every device

This ensures search engines can easily understand, crawl, and rank your site.

Local SEO for Businesses

If you serve customers in and around your town, local SEO is essential.

We optimise your presence to ensure you appear in local search results and map listings, including your Google Business Profile listing. This includes:

  • Accurate NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) consistency
  • Local citation building
  • Location-focused landing pages
  • Locally relevant content
  • Review generation strategies

When someone searches for services “near me” or within your town, we position your business front and centre. This is exactly the approach we take with businesses across Shropshire, including our dedicated SEO support for Shrewsbury businesses.

Measurable Results, Clear Reporting

SEO should never feel vague or uncertain. At Dash Agency, transparency is central to everything we do. We provide clear reporting on:

  • Organic traffic growth
  • Keyword rankings
  • Conversion rates
  • Enquiry and revenue trends
  • Return on investment

Using tools such as Google Analytics, we track how users interact with your site and identify areas for improvement. Our campaigns are continually refined to maximise performance.

Common SEO Mistakes We Help You Avoid

Many businesses struggle with SEO because of avoidable errors, including:

  • Keyword stuffing
  • Ignoring mobile optimisation
  • Poor site speed
  • Thin or duplicate content
  • Neglecting technical issues

Search engine algorithms evolve constantly. Our team stays ahead of industry updates, so your strategy remains compliant, competitive, and effective.

SEO FAQs

Last updated: September 2026

Is SEO dead because of AI?

No, but the data shows AI Overviews are genuinely reshaping how many clicks a search result gets, so it deserves an evidence-led answer rather than an opinion.

Pew Research Center tracked the real browsing behaviour of 900 US adults across 68,879 Google searches in March 2025. When an AI Overview appeared, people clicked through to a traditional search result in just 8% of visits, against 15% when no AI Overview was shown. Only 1% of visits resulted in a click on a source link inside the AI Overview itself, and users were more likely to end their search session there and then (26%, versus 16% without an AI Overview). (Pew Research Center, 22 July 2025)

Ahrefs’ most recent update, published February 2026, analysed 300,000 keywords using aggregated Google Search Console data and found that an AI Overview now correlates with a 58% lower average click-through rate for the page ranking in position one, up from the 34.5% drop it measured a year earlier. Position-one CTR for AI-Overview-triggering keywords fell from 7.3% (December 2023) to 1.6% (December 2025), against a forecast of 3.7% had AI Overviews not been introduced. (Ahrefs, updated 4 February 2026)

What this means in practice: clicks on any single result are down across the board, which is exactly why SEO still matters, just differently. Being the source an AI Overview actually cites, and ranking for the queries where people still click through (transactional, local and comparison searches AI tends to summarise less confidently) is now the harder, more valuable job. We will revisit this answer as new data comes in.

Do backlinks still matter for SEO?

Yes, but the quality bar has risen sharply and Google’s own public messaging about links has quietly cooled, which is where a lot of the “backlinks are dead” claims come from.

Backlinks remain one of the most heavily weighted ranking factors according to the SEOs who study this professionally. Zyppy’s September 2026 Google Ranking Factors Expert Survey asked 131 SEO professionals to score 103 potential ranking factors across 13,665 individual assessments: backlinks came second only to on-page relevance, with 54.8% of experts naming them a top-three factor, narrowly ahead of content quality (47.6%). (Zyppy, September 2026)

What has genuinely changed is Google’s own framing. Its spam policy documentation used to state plainly that “Google uses links as a factor in determining the relevancy of web pages.” That line was quietly dropped in a 2024 rewrite, which now defines link spam by intent, as links created “primarily for the purpose of manipulating search rankings”, rather than restating links’ role as a relevancy signal. Google still runs a dedicated Link Spam Policy, policed by its SpamBrain system, and a search engine doesn’t keep policing a signal it has stopped using. (Search Engine Journal, 26 September 2024; Google Search Central, current spam policies)

What this means in practice: building or buying links purely for volume is a bigger risk than it used to be, and a small number of links from genuinely relevant, well-trafficked sites will do more for your rankings than a large batch of low-quality ones. Backlinks are still worth earning, just not by the playbook that worked a decade ago.
